Restoration

The collections of Hessen Kassel Heritage are cared for by restorers in modern equipped studio spaces. Responsibilities are mainly based on specialized areas and the materials from which the collection items are made. The preventive conservation, preservation, and care of collection objects are the main tasks of the restorers. This includes objects that primarily function as furnishings in historical buildings, including outdoor sculptures in historical parks, as well as collection items presented in museum buildings under museum conditions in various thematic areas.

The aim of a conservation treatment is to preserve the object as completely as possible in its original state, protect it from further decay, and slow down the aging process of the materials by creating optimal environmental conditions. An important aspect of experiencing originality is also the presence of signs of use and aging. Often, these "signs of time" provide interesting information about the way objects were used, as well as about previous owners, which should be preserved in principle.
