Since 1976, the Neue Galerie has been presenting modern artworks from state and city collections. For the museum opening, the famous German artist Joseph Beuys set up his own room with his works. It remains the centerpiece of the museum to this day.
On the 3500 square meters of exhibition space, visitors experience the full range of paintings, sculptures, and new media from recent art history - from 19th-century landscape paintings to abstract painting to international contemporary art.
Especially worth seeing is the permanent exhibition "about: documenta", where you can immerse yourself in the history of the world-famous art exhibition. Here, the museum also displays original works from past documenta exhibitions, such as four chairs from Ai Weiwei's art project "Fairytale".
