Which bodies are considered normal? How did people react to the diversity of human shapes in the past? And what body images do we encounter today?
The exhibition is dedicated to various topics related to dwarfism, which can be found from ancient times to the present. Especially small people held a prominent position, especially in the Early Modern period. They often held high positions at princely courts and were portrayed by the most significant artists of their time. At the same time, they often could not lead a self-determined life, were repeatedly marginalized, and perceived as "different". Even today, people with dwarfism are affected by discrimination, but they also repeatedly fight for opportunities for social participation and visibility.
The exhibition here bridges the gap between historical artworks and our present society. Collection objects and high-quality loans make it possible to present the individual biographies of people with dwarfism and to raise questions about dignity, recognition, and inclusion then and now.
