Hessian State Museum

A whole region under one roof

300,000 years of (North) Hessian regional and cultural history under one roof, that is the Hessian State Museum. History is presented on three levels from very different perspectives - from the traces of the first humans to the Middle Ages, from the times of the landgraves to the present.

Since its renovation in 2016, the State Museum has even more space for discoveries, exhibits, and temporary exhibitions. The building itself has also been showcased in the best possible way since then: The structure, inaugurated in 1913 and designed by architect Theodor Fischer, combines Art Nouveau and Neo-Renaissance styles. Particularly striking is the prominently visible tower. Visitors can climb it and enjoy a sweeping view over the region, which is the main theme of the lower floors.

Tower tours take place every full and half hour. Subject to change.
